Neurodevelopmental and Neurocognitive Disorders

Autism Spectrum Diagnostic Assessment  (ADOS)

A detailed autism assessment is crucial to ensuring an accurate diagnosis. There is a significant amount of research indicating that early intervention maximises outcomes and gives people with ASD the best possible chance of developing skills. Autism assessments include an autism-specific screen using an ASRS or SCQ, a clinical interview with family or carers using an ADI-R, an ADOS assessment and observation of the child.

Neuropsychological Assessment

We conduct Neuropsychological Assessments, also known as Neurocognitive Assessments. Reports are provided to the patient and referrer and include useful and applicable recommendations. Neuropsychological Assessment is the fine-grained assessment of brain-behaviour relationships, and typically incorporates standardized measurement of thinking skills such as attention, learning, memory, language skills, visuospatial skills and planning, organization and problem-solving skills.

Educational & Cognitive Assessments- Learning Disabilities -School Readiness

Educational Assessments

An Educational Assessment offers valuable insight into the unique learning and academic abilities of your child and provides a personal strengths and weaknesses profile, which can inform both parents and educators in tailoring intervention and remediation. Educational assessments assess areas of mental functioning related to memory, the ability to pay attention to tasks and to solve problems. They assist parents and educators to make informed decisions regarding their child’s educational placement, optimal learning environment and individual learning needs. Such assessments are also used for the assessment of suspected specific learning disorders such as Dyslexia and Dyscalculia.

Cognitive Assessments

A Cognitive Assessment (WPPSI or WISC) is an individually administered intelligence test for children between the ages of 2.5 and 16 inclusive that can be completed without reading or writing. The test can take up to 2 hours to administer and generates a Full-Scale IQ (formerly known as an intelligence quotient or IQ score) which represents a child’s general intellectual ability. It also provides five primary index scores (i.e., Verbal Comprehension Index, Visual Spatial Index, Fluid Reasoning Index, Working Memory Index, and Processing Speed Index) that represent a child’s abilities in more discrete cognitive domains.

School Readiness  Assessment

The purpose of a school readiness assessment is to give parents advice on whether a child is ready to start school and to assist with making informed decisions about how to proceed. While age is a key factor regarding whether your child is ready to start school, there are other important aspects to take into consideration:

A school readiness assessment may include testing and assessment in the following areas:

  • Concept knowledge
  • Attention
  • Memory
  • Speech and language
  • Auditory processing
  • Fine and gross motor skills
  • Social skills
  • Behaviour and functioning
  • Psychological and emotional functioning

Parenting Difficulties

Supporting children and their families to reach their maximum potential.

Although being a parent can be extremely rewarding, there are times when it may bring feelings of frustration or deep concern. There are no clear rules or guidelines on how to raise kids, and for many people this can be a complex journey. From the initial anxieties of becoming a new parent, to sending your child to school for the first time, and supporting your teenager through various challenges in life, parenthood can seem like a constant rollercoaster full of ups and downs. Parents may find it difficult to understand the unique needs of their child and address these, whilst managing their own busy lives. This can be exacerbated by of the challenges that can be present by children and adolescents; multiple things to focus on and an inability for the parent to cope.

Problematic or difficult at life situations that affect the whole family can also put a strain on the relationships within. This may include health problems, financial strain, mental health issues and conflict between family members. Transitions within the family such as loss and separation can also cause sudden change in one’s life, forcing the family to make dramatic adjustments. These issues, if unresolved, can be challenging and affected individuals or the family as a whole can benefit from outside support.

We can help parents and families in multiple ways to address their unique problems to develop strong coping strategies. We are able to work with a family as a whole group, or with family subgroups and/or individuals to mobilise the family’s strengths and resources. Through counselling, an understanding of the family’s dynamics and the child and parent’s needs can be explored in order to improve confidence and communication. This in turn will strengthen relationships within the family and improve the wellbeing of its members.

Quit Smoking Hypnosis

During  Hypnosis, a process of deep relaxation, we use the part of the mind which controls our habits and emotions. Hypnosis allows us to re-program our habits, triggers and thoughts about smoking and other addictions.

On average  1 - 3 sessions are required, as every smoker has a different relationship with nicotine or other substances.  You will receive a Quit Smoking Self Hypnosis CD after the initial session.

Overweight & Obese

  • Hypnotherapy for weight loss can be an effective adjunct to work towards behaviour changes. The idea is that the mind can be influenced to change habits like overeating or emotional eating.
